SD73 Trades & Transition and TRU Trades & Technology recognize the under-representation of females working in trades in British Columbia. Both departments are committed to increasing female youths’ knowledge and awareness of trades. The Girls Exploring trades and technology project has allowed us to:
- Provide female youth with the opportunity to explore 4 different trades under the guidance of certified tradespeople at TRU.
- Enhance female youth awareness of tall trades-related programs at TRU.
- Inform student of the challenge and benefits of women working in the grades.
The mini sampler will be held over a 2-day period in the trades department at TRU under the guidance of certified tradespeople. Female students in grade 7 through Grade 10 will have the opportunity to sample four trades including Instrumentation, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanic, Power Engineering and Electrical.
Women either currently studying a trade of already working in a trade will be available to speak with the students. Our goal is to expose female youth to trades and encourage them to consider the possibly of choosing a trade as a rewarding career in their future.
