Based on a review of literature and consultations, this project aims to investigate ways to ease transitions for students between grade 12 and 1st Year University, and improve retention into 2nd year.
The second aim of this collaborative project is to contribute to discussion on knowledge and skills transfer between secondary school teachers and university faculty members with respect to curricula and pedagogical practices.
The third aim of this project is to raise the discussion and deconstruct the notion of Transition by answering how student transition has been defined and conceptualized. There is a need for further conceptualization from the student point of view which rarely taken in to consideration we believe.
The ‘transitioners’ (students) and their strategies and choices to post‐secondary destinations (like that of TRU) are the focus of this study/project. By doing so, we investigate the process of transition as a whole and not an isolated event or stage by stage approach.
